Sketchup Resources

• Aidan Chopra's Sketchup Videos - Quite useful, expertly crafted videos cover a lot of ground beyond the basics that you may not be finding in the Lynda/Google videos such as photo matching, but also handy trouble shooting videos like: Edges on a face won't sink in. 
• Aidan Chopra's Sketchup for Dummmies, a great how-to and reference book, is available in 175 McKenzie, the Collaboration Center under "F710 /A18".
• One of the things that one need to get over in the learning curve of SketchUp is the process of building things,  The hardest part is conceptualizing how your going to construct that complex form you have in your mind.  More often than not the process is less staightforward than you'd think and requires using the simple tools that Sketchup offers you in unexpected combinations to achieve an interesting result.  Here is another set of video tutorials.  It may be helpful to watch the videos of the construction of complex objects (like cars, robots, etc...)

More Advanced Sketchup Tools

• Ruby Scripts extend what Sketchup does.  Some scripts such as Bezier.rb plug-in to draw curves and Unfold are simple to load and use, others take some scouting to figure out.  Jackie likes the Smustard site for these plugins, you can also find them at Ruby Library Depot and through this resource page.  See also 1001bit.

• Sketchy Physics:  The home page has more examples and beta plug-in for Windows.

• Tutorialized - A site that links to tutorial video for tons of computer programs ranging from Adobe product to web design to AutoCad and Microsoft Office.

• YouSuckAtPhotoshop - free video tutorials with snarky attitude to keep you awake recommended by Eleni & Michael.

Inspiring Videos

• TED talks -  invites innovators from different fields to address business people, designers and entertainers.Edit
• Bill Buxton Home Page - Sketching User Experiences book documents what works and doesn't work in designing for people. Strong lecture videos.
• Learning and Working in the Collaborative Age - Wonderful explaination of the possibilities of collaboration (vs. cooperation). Rousing call for working together.

Appealing Websites  

• Death by Architecture - A site that lists current architecture competitions including student competitions.
• Design Share - This site offers a wide variety of educational venues through the eyes of architects and designers.  Its well organized and has great images if you go under the "Case Studies" tab.  They have everything from floor plans to lighting diagrams! - CW

Strong Architectural Graphics

• Dezeen - blog with some very flashy graphics from some megastar firms, as well as interesting product design and smaller interesting buit projects.

Photoshop Collage

• From Landscape + Urbanism a post with some great graphics from Seiwooo, using photoshop collage in a variety of ways.  Landscape architects are experts at collage, and may be good references for the Photoshop Tennis assignment coming up.
• Sketchup to Photoshop :  The Dennis Technique uses strategic erasure of layers to create a marker drawing look.
